Creative Soundcard front bay

Is it possible to use one of the new Creative Xfi Cards with the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum's front bay?

I googled it and found only one meaningful result. It happened to be from another forum. One response to a question almost exactly like yours was that it was possible, but you have to attach the firewire cable to one of the headers on the motherboard instead of on the soundcard (which doesn't have one). Later, the user responded with news of driver and incompatibility problems using that idea. The last post, he/she stated they were going to install new drivers that night. No other posts were made.

I don't have any experience with the way the breakout boxes work. I was under the impression it would use a proprietary cable to connect to the soundcard, but apparently they use a standard firewire header cable. If you already have all those things on hand (x-fi, audigy breakout box, firewire headers), it's worth a try, but otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

Well basically on my new machine i want to use all the functions of my audigy card, but creative's vista drivers for it dont support alot of the stuff that i want to use, but i also need the front drive bay. I haven't got any dosh to buy a new card yet but my bf said we can swap til i can, as he has an x fi card but no front bay, and doesn't need the stuff that i do.

There is 3 cables that go from the soundcard to the front bay. A firewire cable, a small-ish ribbon cable which i think is for the midi in and out, and then another larger ribbon cable which must be for the rest of the bits and pieces.

I guess the only way to do it would to just try. I'm not fussed about the firewire, only all the other stuff like phono in and the midi ports, and having the full size stereo jacks on the front.

Thanks anyway schmidget,

Roz
