Digital passthrough

Hi,
I have some nice speakers (logetech z5500) that will switch to dts mode when a digital dts signal from a dvd is passed to them.
But I cant get my pc to pass a digital signal out without it messing with it and turning it into analogue first.
Has anyone got this working? if so, how?
I'm willing to buy new a new sound card if there's one that someone has got it working with.
