Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

Hi,

I am an utter computer novice, so feel free to mock me whilst helping me...or just mock me full stop if you like, though I'd prefer to have the help bit as well.
Anyway, I have Windows XP with built in Soundmax Digital Audio

AMD Sempron Processor,
2600+
1.60 GHZ,
448 MB RAM

Often, when I use an application like WMP or Itunes, the sound will cut out suddenly and the cursor freezes, then jumps around, then freezes, then jumps around etc etc for a few seconds. The sound seems to just cut out at random times when using these applications. I've recently been using
Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, and the sound cuts out here at random times too, and the cursor jumps around, but this time often freezes completely and crashes the computer.
Any ideas? Please tell me if I need to give any more info.

Hi there Sidd, Welcome to ItsAllPC.

Don't worry, we won't mock you here!

Have you tried using up to date virus/adware scanners?

If not a list of free ones is here.

Post back if you need help.

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

Thank you for the kind welcome sir. I have always used AVG for viruses and Ad-Aware for spyware, and also have a Zone Alram firewall, so I regularly keep my computer monitored for such invasions. I must say, this sound problem is very frustrating, since I'm trying to edit a film at the moment, and much of it involves cutting to music.
Any other ideas?

Have you tried re-installing your sound driver?

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

What manufacturer and model is your motherboard? There may be updated sound drivers available.

It's not unusual to experience issues with integrated sound based on AC'97 codecs, especially on systems 3 years and older.

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

Well, I know the motherboard is a Foxtron, but I can't find the damn manual that tells the model. Is there no way of finding that out through device manager or something?

*CORRECTION* Apologies....I'm a fool

It's a Foxconn 760GXK8MC. How do I find out if I need to download drivers?

A Google searchÂÂ!

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/servic...,760GXK8MC-RSH

Download and install that, and if it is a driver problem then it will be fixed.

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

Yes, I tried to download this a few times, but it freezes at 15.7MB for a while, then suddenly jumps to end. When I click on winrar file that has been downloaded, a diagnostic message comes up that says ' Unexpected end of archive'. When I unzip it, the folder that is extracted is empty and it says 'Either multipart or corrupt ZIP arcive'. Damn it!! Do you think this is just a temporary problem? Should I e-mail Foxconn? Is there any alternative drivers I can try?

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

That sounds like a problem at your end.

Restart your PC and try again. If no luck use a different browser to download it such as Mozilla FireFox.

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

I've restarted my computer a couple of times and tried downloading with Internet Explorer and Firefox, and still the same problem.
Are any of these drivers relevant? They are a lot smaller. http://www.driverscollection.com/?H=...t=4&By=Foxconn

Only ever download drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Perhaps you can download them on a friend's PC?

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

Ok, this is getting silly now. I'd e-mailed Foxconn, saying that i couldn't download the driver, and they sent me this seemingly useless link. http://www.foxconnchannel.com.cn/upl...hic%20card.htm
Tehn I attempted to download the driver yet again, and this time it actually worked. However, when I unzipped it, a box opened saying that practically every file in it was corrupt!!! Thus, I haven't proceeded any further with installing the driver in case it causes mischief. What the hell is going on??!!

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

Unfortunately, what's going on is Foxconn are terrible

There are some people out there who think that Foxconn is an acceptable brand, who don't think their hardware is ultra low quality and their customer services is second last to none. I am not one of these.

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

How very very annoying. Its not my computer, its my mother's, and my brother chose the motherboard not long ago after the previous one bit the dust. I would just like to say thank you very much for the help you have given me so far. So....erm....any more suggestions?

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

I had a moan at Foxconn again, and they offered me this alternative download.http://www.foxconnchannel.com/EN-US/...S,760GXK8MC-RS
Is this worth doing? Or is it not a good alternative?

Re: Problems with Soundmax Digital Audio

It looks likes it will do the trick.

If not you could always buy a PCI sound card.
