Speakers are ticking!

I noticed recently that when I listen closely, I can hear what sounds like something ticking in my computer speakers.ÂÂ! I recently had to do a system re-install after an adventure involving Norton Goback and I'm sure it wasn't there before. The ticking corresponds with the constant pulsing (as soon as I boot) of the light that shows hard disk activity - very regular blinking that never ceases. Any idea what this could be? If so, how do you get rid of it? Thanks.
