random volume fluctuation
For some reason my speaker volume jumps up and down semi-randomly. It can go for days at a time without change then some times they spend hours at a time fluctuating randomly.
It is not a windows problem as i have a pair of headphones that never varies and the system volume is stable/static The speakers in question are Creative Labs Cambridge Soundworks Digital FPS 2000 4.1. It doesn't seem to be the powersupply as that sits unmoved by the power strip and the speaker volume can and often does remain stable for days on end. I don't think it is the house's electricity supply as the lights do not flicker or fade. The only thing that comes to mind is radio signals being caught up somewhere in the wires but i'm not sure how to get rid of those. Any advice? It's driving my batty as no sooner have i turned the volume UP, the sound starts blasting and i have to turn it down again only to have the volume drop to almost silent a few seconds later. |

Re: random volume fluctuation
Hi this could be as pc builder said a problem with your speakers. The 3.5 jack connecter could have a problem or the wires inside this jack or leading into the speakers could be loose. If they are broken or loose then you are not getting a clean sound feed. The wires when the speakers are on are moving so the total contact area of the wires is varying and is causing the sound volume to fluctuate as the surface connection is made stronger and weaker with speaker vibration. I would grab a pair of speakers that you know to be fine and working 100% from a friend and put them on your system and see if the volume continues to fluctuate. If on the new speakers everything is fine then you know your speakers are dodgy. If not come back and we will look at other options Loz

Re: random volume fluctuation
the first thing i did when this started happening was to go out and buy some new speakers. initially everything seemed to work fine but then at the weekend it started up again.
the wires themselves are carefully tied up to minimize movement and I've spent hours jiggling, twisting and examining all the various wires, jacks and plugs and the volume remains stable throughout... |
