Onboard sound problem
Hello, I'm itturnstoashes
I found you off of google, and hoped you could help me figure out my little predicament!I'm running AMD Athlon XP 2800+ÂÂ! with 512 Megs of RAM. I have a KM400 - M2 Motherboard by Elitegroup (ECS) My Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA Audio Controller (Onbard) Isn't working. HOWEVER, when I attatch the front panel wire to the motherboard, from my Case, it works FINE. There are apparently no jumpers, and the manual states no changes that must be made. Another wierd thing... I can record sound, but nothing at all will play. ANOTHER wierd thing... The reason I don't want the front panel, is because every 4 seconds, there is a short pause in any recording or playing of audio... I'm wondering what aplication could cause this spike? Any Ideas? I have zone alarm, but this was happening before I got that. Itunes? A crap load of svchost.exe's! Thats all that I can't recognize :S Thanks for any help you can provide, Kevin. |

Re: Onboard sound problem
I can't get any sound when plugging speakers into the back panel jacks, but when I connect the front panel audio header, I can get sound through the front panel jacks. Correct.
When I record audio, the software records properly. On both the front and back. There is a one beat pause... approximately 1/2 - 1 second. More like a jutter every 4 seconds. And its EXACTLY 4 seconds. :S There appears to not be any IRQ conflicts... Drivers are up to date... I'm wondering if it is PURELY hardware that makes it go out the front panel instead of the back. As far as I can see... it should be working. ![]() |

Re: Onboard sound problem
Okay, your first problem is probably due to the fact that when the front audio connectors are not plugged into the front audio header, the jumper settings are not correct. It’s uncommon for jumpers not to ship with a motherboard in the correct position for rear audio, but it’s not uncommon for motherboard manuals to neglect to mention the jumper position for rear audio.
![]() The blue shaded pairs represent the jumper positions required for rear audio. Now, your second problem, I’m still having problem understanding. Quote:

Software will record as long as there is an audio device installed and that device has a recording channel. However, the correct audio channel and input needs to be used to get any sound. I’ve already answered a question on selecting an audio input, so I’ll send you there rather than repeat myself. Remember that in your case, you’ll need to select whatever you want to record from, Mic, Auxiliary, Line-In, whatever. http://www.itsallpc.co.uk/index.php/topic,338.0.html Your third problem is very interesting. I’ll need some more clarification again:

Re: Onboard sound problem
My front pannel works fine. Its the back I'm having trouble with. Maybe Direct Sound/Wave Out drivers got screwed up? Because Wave in works. Um...
No my mouse doesn't freeze up, and my computer takes less than 10 seconds for a complete boot. It's wierd... |

Re: Onboard sound problem
But... My motherboard and cpu case (AOpen) use a single one piece connector :S if you know what I mean? I know what you're trying to say. or... I understand? I started off with using the back.. then the nice man at the pc store decided to... "help me out"
