New System.

Just ventured into the world of getting a custom built PC for the first time - by some else, not capable myself.
It hopefully should be with me in the next week or so.

Here's the spec, what do you all reckon ?

Processor - Intel Quadcore Q6600 2.4Mhz 8mb Cache
Motherboard - MSI P35 Platinum Motherboard
Case - Coolermaster Cosmos S
Power Supply - Coolermaster RealPower 850W with 6 x 12v Rails
Memory - Crucial 4GB Kit (4x1GB) DDR2 1066Mhz/PC2-8500 Ballistix
DVD Drives - 2 x Dual Layer Sony DVD Writer
Graphics Card - XFX 8800 GTX 768mb
Hard Disk Drives - 2 x Seagate ST375020AS 750GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm *32mb Cache, set in Raid 1
Sound Card - Creative Xfi Fatality 7.1 Edition Sound Card
7 in 1 Memory card reader
Windows Home Premium OS
Monitor - Samsung SM226CW 22" TFT Widescreen Monitor 1680 x 1050
Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop Keyboard and Mouse

Cheers for your thoughts.

B.

Looks pretty good, make sure you get 64Bit OS instead of a 32Bit one

I'd have chosen a GeForce 8800 GTS 512 over a GTX (in fact, I did personally). Their performance is roughly equal, but the GTS 512 is a fair bit cheaper and hypothetically cooler, being based on the G92 core. If you were dead set on GTX though, the 9800 GTX has just paper launched.

Also, you'd end up with a better ratio of available storage with say three 500 GB drives in RAID 5 (supported on-chip with the P35) than two 750 GB drives in RAID 1. Both options mean a total of 1.5 TB physical storage, but RAID 1 will give you 50% total available storage of 750 GB, where as the RAID 5 would give you 66% available storage of 1 TB. It may even be cheaper and could be a little faster.

Also, is that two DVD Writers? Unusual...

Thanks for the replies guys.

Appreciated Syphus for your tips, but they were too late, it's already ordered and being built - I'm a little too impatient, I finalised and paid for it all yeaterday and it's already being built.

Cheers anyway.

Rate mine, it's in my sig, but please bear in mind though that this was built for me seven years ago & I realise things have moved on a lot since then, also I told them that I only wanted to surf & browse, it cost in 2001 £540, I could probably have got one off the shelf for £150 less, but equipped with items I'd never had used, & oh yes, the £540 included aTFT monitor as well, a good deal I feel!
