Upgrading RAM on Dell Dimension PC
Hey all. I've been advised to upgrade my RAM on my Dell Dimension 4600 PC for playing MMORPG game. I curently have 512MB and am looking to at least double this. Now, I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to things like this, software I'm fine with, but hardware, I haven't really got a clue. I looked on Dell's website and managed to get a recommendation for Kingston memory, which apparently is for my machine, but it was £80 roughly. When I looked on Novatech website, I saw Consair RAM for about half the price. My query is, firstly is Consair RAM any good, secondly, will it work in a Dell PC. The less money I can pay for some RAM the better as I am also looking to upgrade my Graphics card in the near future so will need money for that too and I am on a small budget, (I currently have Nvidia Geforce FX5200). Also, any hints of where I can find instructions for fitting RAM as it's something I've never done before and wouldn't really know where to start, but am willing to give it a go.
Any help would be appreciated. |

Ok, well first of all is ur pc still under warranty? In this case you will void your warranty if you open the case yourself rather than calling out a dell engineer to do the upgrade, and this also limits you to buying parts only certified for your PC direct from Dell, so you will be paying more than just buying the RAM from Novatech or wherever and doing it yourself or getting a friend to.
Secondly, what RAM is in your machine at the moment (DDR? DDR2? what speed? e.g. PC3200. Corsair RAM is considered to be very good quality. RAM usualy just slots into the RAM slots on the motherboard and click into place with the clips on each end of the slot, altho depending on how many stick of RAM you want, and how many slots there are are key to which slots you put them in, i.e. for dual channel memory configurations.
