Laptop won't power up if I install ram.

Having trouble with an old laptop, everything is fine about the laptop, all runs fine until i try to insert 128mb sdram in rear trap door compartment. Brand new memory module, laptop currently 32 mb sdram, very slow. Need the extra memory to speed it up to a 160mb. But just won't turn on with the memory installed. When I take it out laptop works fine again. Very confused to why the laptop won't come on with extra memory installed. Please help.... It is the definately the right module for the laptop....

Many thanks

Laptop is a toshiba satellite 2140 cds, windows 98 0/S. :'(

Hi bunji, welcome to itsallPC

If it fits [properly], it should be compatible. The module could well be defective. Ordinarily, the next step would be to try another module or test that module in another system.

The Memory module is the second one I have tried, as I originally ordered one and sent it back to the supplier as I thought it was faulty, now I have a replacement maybe it was not the fault of the original module, but that Of my laptop..as this one does not work either..
