AnandTech have an interesting review comparing Intel Core (the official name for Pentium M since the Yonah core) and Mobile Core 2 processors.
While Core shared the same architecture as Pentium M, Core 2 is a much more advanced architecture. Even so, it has its roots in the Pentium M/Core architecture, and has inherited many of its peculiarities. Being a desktop chip, it inherited much of Pentium 4's legacy, including more far reaching core and FSB speeds clock speeds. Mobile derivatives of desktop processors generally operate under lower clock speeds, which sound allow for a much more accurate comparison between Core and Core 2, letting us see if all the Intel slideshows and marketing come to anything.
