Issue with connecting to the net
My problem is that I'm unable to get any web pages via my Desktop.
I have a Laptop and a Desktop at home both with wireless connections, the Laptop is working fine so I have eliminated any issues with my router/provider. On the PC my wireless link looks connected fine with good signal strength. I usually use IE7 which have uninstalled and tried IE6 which made no difference, both just 'hung' there and no error messages came back. I tried Safari and after a long wait got advised that the web page was unable to be displayed. Everything was fine up until a few days back and I don't know of anything that I could have done to for this problem to occur although my son does spend time on the PC. I have SP2 and I'm running on XP with AVG Anti-virus. I have tried re-setting in the Internet Options but this made no difference, also removed the firewall but again no difference. I'm a little stuck and would appreciate any help/advice that anybody can give in helping me getting this sorted out. Just one note, I have tried a number of websites and got the same problem but a couple of times on trying BBC.co.uk I got the home page on both IE7 and Safari. I could not get any further into the site but it did show me the homepage? Thanks in advance, Tim |

Issue with connecting to the net?
A Microsoft update caused a problem like this a few weeks ago?.
Do you have ZoneAlarm installed? If you do you may need to set the firewall, internet settings to medium, then go and get and update from ZoneAlarm. If you are logged into your computer as a user, ZoneAlarm won't be totally disabled, can't remember if that's the same for administrator, as I have been using a different firewall for a while now. Does your email "Outlook Express", etc work ok, do you have Skype installed and online OK, If you do use them and they don't work, run "ipconfig /all" from the DOS command prompt on both computers and see if they are very similar settings. Example at "www.network2computers.com/data/images/XP ipconfig manual.jpg" there are spaces in the image name. Do you have MAC restrictions set on your Access point, does your access point and wireless cards have all the same protocols available ie, WPA or WEP if one is old, If your interested Comodo Firewall Pro is getting very good reviews, you may get a lot more pop up's initially but it decreases after a while. Comodo Firewall also pops up when carrying out program installations or upgrades. You might have just been seeing some pages because they are already cached on your computer. Also if it's was working till a few days ago, try setting system restore back a week or two. Hope this helps you to find the problem. |
