WEP ???
Hi guys, I have networked my router with 3 computers & gone wireless with them.Everything worked well & could get on the Internet with no problems.
I then decided to reinstall windows XP on the Laptop. Once I install XP to the Laptop & the put the Netgear Adaptor into the port, I get a pop-up saying i need to enter the "WEP network key"..... I can't find where this number would be & I've also been to my Router settings & see no WEP number. Now I can't get the Laptop to go online & I've even Ethernet the Laptop & it still will not let me on, Whats WEP & how do i get it so i can get my Laptop back online & into my Network ? |

Hello.
WEP is a type of encryption, and the key would be a password to such encryption. In other words, the password which allows a computer on the network. If your network is unsecured (No password), or has a different type of encription, such as WPA, I would suggest upgrading the network drivers on your laptop, which may be difficult to do since you have no Internet connection to it... Hmmn. I hope that helped?

Do the other computers require a password to connect to the router?

When i set the 3 computers up, Computer ( PC ) 1 was Ethernet & the other 2 where wireless ( 1PC & the Laptop ).It asked me to put in a password & I did this with all 3 computers, with no problems. Now after installing a fresh copy of XP on the Laptop it wants this WEP number.I can gain internet access without putting in any passwords on the other 2 computers.

WEP-> Wired Equivalent Privacy. It like a secret password that you set in the wireless router. open up a web browser make sure ur connected to your router through ethernet. In the browser window type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 and if it asks for username and password try admin admin. Once in your router you need to look for wireless settings, thats where you can set your wep key.
