OK, so I've just switched over to Be*, and now have a lovely fast connection with the option of switching some of my DL frequencies to UL frequencies for a lovely 2.2mbps (likely ~1.8mbps in real terms) upload (I love you, Be*!). I thought it would be interesting to host my blog on a personal server that I can also use to VPN into my home network when I'm away, etc... , or host the odd
small game of BF2 or [insert name of BF2's successor] sometimes.
Now, I don't expect masses of traffic, as my blog's hardly going to touch boingboing or the like (it's on a rather specialist subject anyway). I have all the parts for the computer, apart from a case, but the one thing I'm lacking is a modem/router that is capable of, say, traffic shaping so that I don't have to turn my server off when I decide to play BF2 or other online games.
I used to use a Linksys WRT-54G with custom firmware which allowed me to shape traffic on the network, but I don't know if this is useful operated behind the speedtouch modem/router that came with my connection, and to be honest I'd far rather have a box that I chose and configured myself over a standard-issue one. If you think I can reasonably use the Linksys, I'll go with that, because it's cheaper. I'm not afraid of replacing the firmware with a custom version (I've done it before), so if you know of a suitable firmware, please recommend one.
So, recommendations with reasons, please.
