Question Acer Aspire 3000 laptop wireless 802.11 set up

Hi Everyone,
I have recently purchased an acer aspire 3000 laptop which is supposed to have built in wireless connectivity. However I cannot get the wireless to work. I have heard that this particular model can be a hassle to get it working. The setup I have at home here is a desktop computer which has a modem plugged into a wireless router and then the router plugged into the computer (all via ethernet cable) and it has worked beautifully with my old laptop ( a HP nx9000) but I cannot get my new acer to work with it.

The acer has a button on the front which you push to turn the wireless on, but when I push it it comes up with NO DEVICE on the screen and nothing happens. The button is supposed to be lit up green when connected and not lit up when disconnected, but this doesn't happen. Because It said no device I went into device manager and checked the networking devices and It only has listed the ethernet networking adapter, not the wireless. So I downloaded the broadcom driver for the networking card and installed it, but still nothing in device manager.

So really I need it to recognise it in device manager before I muck around with any settings. This is where I get stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers - Shappo.

Thumbs up

hi i reckon your problem is that you actually don't have a wireless networking card IN the laptop if it's not even showing it on the devices.
I have an Acer Aspire with a bluetooth slide switch at the front, laptop has no bluetooth card in it and when the switch is flicked it comes up with NO BLUETOOTH DEVICE, and this is because there is no bluetooth installed.

maybe ask a shop to take it apart and check or return to ACER

yes. the wireless card might be optional device of this model when you bought it.
I suggest you checking the Devices Manager, and make sure you have the wireless card.
