Wifi Virgin with no idea how to get a Lan card functioning.
Hi everyone,
I bought a wireless card a few days ago: 54M 802.11g WiFi WIRELESS LAN PCI CARD NETWORK ADAPTER When it arrived, it only had a disk with drivers on and nothing else, except the PCI card and antenna of course. So I'm looking at it and the disk and thinking, what the hell am I supposed to do with this??!! I installed the card in a free PCI slot and switched on, then I installed the drivers from the disk, and that was it. Nothing happened, no dialog box to explain that it's installed or working or whatever - nothing. I need some help I'm afraid. Could anyone out there tell me how I install one of these things and get it running to be able to share my internet access with a laptop? Do I actually need to get some kind of adaptor for the laptop to be able to recieve wifi signals or what? And would a PCMCIA adaptor card do that or not? Thanks! |

Ok, here's the info
Hi Cindy
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition The WiFi card is Broadcom 54M 802.11g WiFi WIRELESS LAN PCI CARD NETWORK ADAPTER, it's already in the PC so can't give you the model number unless you really need it. The laptop I want to connect is a Compaq Armada M700 plus one other I will be buying in the next couple of months, dunno what it's gonna be yet.!. Err...WiFi Router?..... DB |

Hi Databyte
![]() Thats strange because your Broadcom card should work, it is possible that the drivers on the disk are corrupt but you will need the model No if you want to download the latest drivers for your card Broadcom site > Here it may be worth contacting them. Compaq Armada M700 yes you will need a PCMCIA Card for this Laptop. Cindy X |

That was useful
Hi Cindy,
Thanks, that's useful and i will be getting hold of a PCMCIA card for my laptop. And, for some reason, I restarted my PC just recently, and the card was recognised and the drivers installed for it from the disk, odd. That kinda leads me to think there's something up with my system setup somewhere. Of course right now I got a message saying my wireless card is active but I'm not connected. Do i assume that that will be sorted once I get my laptop online? Cheers Cindy DB |

Hiya Databyte
![]() Yes when you install a PCMCIA card your connection will be complete, and when you go wireless do go in to your Router settings (change name and password and do use WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) encryption, any problems do post back. Cindy X |
