Router Encryption

I have a Hawking HWR54G Wireless Router and am trying to encrypt it so that only my other computer can access the Internet using the Hawking USB and this connection. If someone can please elaborate on how to encrypt this Internet and how to access it from the other computer it would be greatly appreciated. =)

Hi Grace,

all the wireless routers generally follow the same setup.

The way I do it is to connect my computer the the router using a cable.

I then go into internet explorer and type in the routers ip address it will look something like 192.188.0.1 the actual ip should be on the router or in the manual.

enter the username and password of the router

you should now have menus. look for one called WEP. choose 128 bit encyption or 64 and then generate a key or type one in. take a note of this key as you will need it for your computer

save the settings

go to your computer and scan for wireless networks. If using xp or vista this is easy. click on your network twice to get it to connect. enter the same key used on router and everything should be good to go.

I hope that makes sense.

I limit what PCs can connect to my router by MAC address of each device. Means i can turn off my bro's access when he's being an arse lol.
