Connection problem DRIVING ME NUTS!

Hi geeks!

Every 5-10 mins or so, my internet connection gets terminated and I have to keep switching off my modem's power and wait for it to re-connect. I know it's not congestion issues, as my wireless connection to my laptop from the same modem is fine (and the problem occurs all the time).

I'm presuming it's to do with my desktop connection settings?

When connected, I have 3 icons in 'network connections'. At the top appears an 'Internet Gateway' icon and below under the 'LAN or high-speed internet' section, I have 2 icons: One is something called a '1394 connection' and the other is 'Local area connection' (both enabled).

Hardware I'm using:

Intel D975XBX board using the Intel 82573E/82573L Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Netgear wireless router (connected via RJ-45 cable)

When the connection freezes:

My tray icon stop's flashing which is my gateway connection. My internet gateway connection icon shows as connected under network connections. When I right click the icon, and click on status, it shows connected but the time duration has frozen (16:56).

My LAN connection shows connected and the duration is still counting.

In event viewer, I see something under system called 'Dhcp' which had an error at 20:33 then two warnings at 20:54 and 21:01 (13 minutes ago) I also see 'e1express' warnings from earlier (19:02).

Tried ipconfig /renew with the following result:

'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : Unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.'

Just noticed 'dhcp' in both errors...

Any help will of course be gratefully recieved! Thanks in advance!

Glenn
