My PC keeps dropping off the network

Help...... I have made a small network in our block just between 4 computers in order to be able to play games on. It was working fine until last night when It appears to be blocking incoming information from the other 3. I can still ping them fine but they cannot ping my ip. It is as if my PC is blocking it for some reason. I still have access to the shared drives though. I have checked all my firewall settings and they are fine. Like I said one second it was fine and then it just stopped working without changing any settings. Your help in resolving this matter is greatly appreciated as it is driving me nuts as im missing out on game play

cheers

Chris

Re: My PC keeps dropping off the network

Hi Chris

In order to provide a solution, I need additional information:
  • Operating system and service pack if applicable
  • Switch/Hub manufacturer and port count
  • Data rate/duplex
  • Network scope and subnet mask.

thanks

Re: My PC keeps dropping off the network

The most common cause for this issue under these circumstances is firewall settings. In the case of a secure peer to peer network, no client should have a firewall enabled. This includes the firewall built into Windows XP SP2. If a gateway to the WAN is present on the network, only then should clients have packet filters, but not firewalls.

You said you checked your firewall settings; what settings are you using, and in what firewall?
