Wireless Network - NetGear DG834G
Hi,
I am currently researching Wireless networks and am wondering how reliable the NetGear DG834G is? How often does it lose signal and how long does it take to reconnect? And finally, how strong is the signal and over what distance is it lost and can it travel through stone inner walls? On a similar note, is it possible to have two routers plugged into the same phone line but in seperate areas of the house but use them simultaneously? Thanks for your time. |

Re: Wireless Network - NetGear DG834G
Hello Groom,
May 2005 Award Winning Review of DG834G Wireless Router & WG511 Wireless PC Card Computer Upgrade "As one of the biggest names in networking it should come as no surprise that we don't have any qualms in recommending Netgear's wireless networking solutions. If you're interested in a full wireless solution, then we can't recommend the DG834G ADSL router enough. It's a feature-packed router that has an 802.11g access point, a four-port 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Switch and a full ADSL modem gateway. Though most routers tend to end up stashed away under the desk or behind a cupboard, we're glad to see that Netgear hasn't skimped on the DG834G's looks." Thats a review From Computer Upgade mag. Looks good to me. Here is a review for you about this hardware. From ADSL guide .net very imformative site. Click here to read the review of the NetGear DG834G As for splitting the signal and using 2 routers yes its possible but i would not advice it as it reduces your Broadband signal strength. Ok your signal strength is worked out on how many objects and at what angle the signal passes through. for example you get most power from line of site. (router sees the computer u are using) next if you have a laptop and are using it upstairs the signal passes through x amount of walls each wall decreases the strength of the signal by x. take also into consideration that if you have a 1 foot thick wall and the signal passes straight through that wall you pass through 1 foot of wall. But if the signal passes through a wall at an angle of 90 degrees then the signal is passing through 2 feet of wall. remember you will recieve the signal in a straight line. So work out your angles of attitude on the signal. The AP you are thinking of buying will be perfect for a 50m circumference. and will work well at a 75mĂ‚Â! circumference. over 75m you will experiance drop out and slow down of signal. there are many antennas available for signal boosting and you can get them for indoor or out door use. Aroud 100£ But for general home use this router is good and you should not experiance any problems hope this helps Loz
