Need New Motherboard and Processor

Hi,

First post here and need a bit of guidance.

Basically I bent and snapped the pins on my current processor, wrecking both it and the motherboard. So I need new ones of each.

I am pretty new to the hardware aspect of computers but have managed to find out this:

The Motherboard is an MD5000 from Medion and is an mATX/ MICRO ATX form factor? The processor is a Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz 478 socket.

Basically I need to replace both and have not got a clue where to start. I don't need anything super fancy but found it cheaper to upgrade than source these parts above.

It also needs to support an nVidia Geforce AGP 64Mb Graphics Card which came with the PC. Could be an MX-440 (MSI - 8893)

What would you recommend for me? I assume I will need to upgrade my RAM too to DDR 2 as my current is only DDR?

Apologies for the sketchy information, but would really appreciate help!

Thanks

Red face

2 Questions:

A)
Do you have a laptop or a desktop?
B)
How did you manage to snap the pins on your motherboard?

Doctorzeus.

Desktop,

Simple really, pulled the processor out of it's 478 socket, then tried to replace it, failed and crushed the pins in the process!

Lightbulb

Ok its a good thing you have got a desktop,

There are several options,

-Send it back into the manufacturer and ask them to fix it.

-Buy a new motherboard off E-bay or some other shop or the manufacture.

-Can you bend the pins back yourself? (DON'T SCREW IT UP MORE CAUSE THATS BAD!)

-Are you sure both the processor/s and the motherboard are broken and not just one or the other?

Currently attempting 1 and 2 (hard to find the same one now)

3) Tried and yes made it worse

4) Pins snapped off on processor, pins embedded into motherboard socket and cannot be removed thus both broke

I think you are going to have to get a new motherboard and processor, hmm-have you got a soldering Iron?

Hi,

Indeed, although the other components are out of date (IDE Optcial and Hard Disc drives, and AGP graphics). So going to scrap the AGP car and use an integrated on the new Mobo and get myself a SATA DVD/ RW to replace the current DVD ROM and CD/RW Drives. Then use the one ATA/ IDE Socket most current micro ATX motherboards have to run the ATA HDD!

Although I will probably need a fresh copy of XP as mine came preinstalled! Hmm i'm thinking a new cheap base unit may work out the less expensive option!!!

Thanks for your help!

Thats OK-

But have you considered just buying a new computer anyway?

Youre replacing most of your PC, just buy a new one......
