No POST, only Fans working
When I turn on my PC the fans come on as normal but it wont even POST.
I can hear a short noise from the cd just after I turn on, then nothing. It does this for anything between 5 and 50 tries, until it suddenly decides to work. I have tried different ram, video card, and tried them in another machine, they work. The only difference I can notice now, as opposed to when it worked ok, is that the power unit seems to run almost silently, [more quiet than before], but the fan turns and so does the fan on the CPU I really don’t kow, does anyone have any thoughts. CPU - Socket 478, Intel Prescott Intel Pentium 4 Celeron - FSB 800MHz/533MHz Chipset - SiS 655FX+964L, Supports Hyper-Threading Technology Memory - Supports Dual Channel Technology - 4 x DDR DIMM slots - DDR 400/333/266 Desperately need some advice / Kevin |

MOOR INFO
When it does POST [eventually]
I manage to get to post by double pressing the reboot button on the case When it works, it seems to work in batches, ie it will reboot using above method, 8 or 10 times, then stops rebooting. [Sometimes the Bios opens with message "Failed to boot 2 times, enter Bios F2 or Defaults will be automatically loaded in x secods] When it does reboot, the first time it has difficulty opening W2K and usually takes 2 or 3 attempts before it gets there. I have run chkdsk /r Scheduled for reboot It gets as far as checking the free space Completes and hangs on that screen Reboot Sometimes it will go back into chkdsk, sometimes it will go to boot Sometimes it makes it I am going crazy here It appears that everything WILL work, sometimes In my mind, I keep thinking I have a BIOS problem but it must be more than that, because most of the time I am not getting to POST Then I think it might be a Power Problem, but both the Fans are working [and I can hear it accessing (almost sure, the CD Drive[this is when I double click the reboot button]) so I think there is power Then I go to memory I have swapped similar memory from a known working good machine [same ram ddr 400] and the ram also works in the other machine so I think my memory is OK I also tried memory in the other slot in case there was something wrong with the slot I swapped the graphic card for one known to work [When it boots up, the old graphics card showed no problems so I think the Card is ok I have removed all other PCI Cards WHAT ELSE IS THEIR? WHAT ELSE IS THEIR TO CHECK? How can I proceed All Help greatly received Kevin |
