new motherboard

Hello, i'm having major problems with my computer - it won't power up at all, it doesn't make a single sound when i try to turn it on. After replacing the power supply, the problem still persists, so i'm pretty sure the motherboard is to blame. The motherboard is quite old anyway, and has rubbish specs, so i might as well take this opportunity to get a new one.

Does anyone know if i'll need to reformat my two hard drives, or can i just connect all the existing peripherals to a new motherboard, turn it on and start using it? My hard drives are huge, and there's no way to back them up, since the pc won't turn on.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Forgive me for sounding a bit thick but if aa2239's computer is failing to even power up let alone start the OS then what diference does it make what OS he's got on his hard-drive?

Sounds to me like a nackered PSU or failing that......

Have you checked the fuse in the plug? You'll be amazed how many people forget that small but very important part of a pc or indeed any electrical item.
