Can`t Instal XP Pro on SCSI Drive

Hello...
I`m having trouble installing Windows XP Pro on my system, when booting with the cd it gives an error (CDBOOT: Cannot boot from CD - Code: 4). I have a PCI SCSI contorller card and a 32 gb drive (SCSI too) in where i whanr the system to be but i can`t install it. One funny thing is that removing the drive from the system the CD will boot, otherwise it gives the error code.

What can i do?

SYSTEM:
Biostar P4M800 - M7 A Ver 7.0 "VIA Chipset" (VIA P4M800/VT8237R+)
Celeron D Processor (2.8 Ghz)
512 Mb RAM
Mercury SCSI Ultra 160 Controller Card (898B) Model 155984
32 gb Compaq SCSI Drive 80 pins (With Adapter 80 to 68 pins)
IDE DVD-Rom (as Primary Slave)

Re: Can`t Instal XP Pro on SCSI Drive

hello

i have the same i,ve got 2x 160 sata hard drives and at first could not find them to load in my os ,

1st load up cd , then f6 to load in scsi drivers (this should be at start of boot up) now depending on motherboard find the right drivers for the mb and hd install them on floppy (will need a floppy drive for this ) format and off you go

you normaly recieve a floppy disc with the motherboard with drivers on it

good luck

p.s. you need 2 scsi drives to run this system

Re: Can`t Instal XP Pro on SCSI Drive

Thank you, but the thing is that I can´t get to boot, there for i´m unable to press F6 for the drivers of my SCSI card (By the way, I have the XP drivers).

I also checked the terminarions of the SCSI devices, I have the termination thing in one end of the cable, then on the next connection is the PCI SCSI card and at the very last end is the Hard Drive.

Hi destr0, welcome to itsallPC

I'd be looking at the CD-ROM drive, or the BIOS - both are instrumental in booting from a optical disc properly.

Make sure your BIOS is most recent version, and try another optical drive. It's also a good idea to make sure any IDE drives do not reside on a masterless channel. If you have a single IDE optical drive, it should be Primary Master.

Re: Can`t Instal XP Pro on SCSI Drive

This is a puzzle.

It looks suspiciously like some sort of BIOS problem. You may want to check on the device setting - ensure that Plug'n'Play OS is set to Off or No, and that all the IRQs are set to Automatic, PCI/PnP or similar, and not reserved/ISA.

Plug'n'Play is set to NO
Check that something related to IRQs where not set to reserved.

But no luck... same thing.

Re: Can`t Instal XP Pro on SCSI Drive

Not sure if this works the same but any idea seems worth mentioning at this point i'm guessing.

On my sata controller card, on bootup, u can press a key tht takes it into the controller's own bios thing, n there's settings for whether u want it as a bootable drive or not, is there anything for ur scsi card like that?

Roz

PS. that goes for the guy with SATA problems as well. also for him, i found that in the normal bios thing, u hav to choose between normal SATA or RAID array, depending on what you want. If ur trying to make a bootable raid array, check that ur controlelr card/mobo is capable of that, and look around for the related settings. read the manual, it helps! not being funny or ought btw, lol.
