Confused (ms-7168)

Hi All, I recently bought a PB Imedia comp with a ms-7168 mainboard. My problem is all the online media and cpu-z say this is a socket 939 but the computer has a Athlon 3400+ which is a 754 processor.

Can a 754 cpu go in a socket 939?

What is correct?

Thanks for any help.

-Mark

Re: Confused (ms-7168)

no a 754 cannot fit on a 939, as it refers to the pin arrangement.

Is it such a problem that it detects it as 1 not the other? Are u sure it's defintiely that socket n not the other?

Roz

Re: Confused (ms-7168)

There is actually an OEM Athlon 64 3400+ skt939, Newcastle core, which is exactly the same spec as the Athlon 64 3500+: 2.2 GHz/512 kB L2 Cache. Since you're using an OEM motherboard, that would follow.

The best way to confirm CPU type is check the codename of the CPU; each core codename is specific to a socket type (there are a few exceptions - the Athlon 64 4000+ skt939 which is actually a Sledgehammer core, originally in a skt940 package), or confirm that it has dual channel memory, which is not possible in skt754.
