Re: motherboard issue
You may require a BIOS update. Check the manufactureer website for your motherboard to see if you have the latest version, and they will have instructions on how to porperly flash your BIOS if it's necessary.
Before trying that though, did you clear your CMOS before/after installing the chip? This is sometimes required when switching hardware in your computer, as the BIOS still might be trying to load settings for the OLD hardware.
There is a jumper on your motherboard marked "CMOS" and most of the time it's yellow in color. Turn off the power supply and make sure there is no power going through the computer. Then move this jumper over to pins 2 and 3 (it should be on pins 1 and 2) wait about 15 seconds. Then, switch it back over to pins 1 and 2 like you found it. Power the machine back up with the new processor installed and it should recognize it properly. You may need to go into the BIOS and set all settings to Default after a CMOS clear.
Your motherboard manufactureer website should have documentation of where your CMOS jumper as well as the motherboard manual.
