Strange Keyboard Problem
I’ve got a sticky problem and sure could use someones help.
I’ve got a Vaio laptop running xp2 with 2 users. When one of the users is logged in, the built in laptop keyboard works fine. When the other logs in, the laptop keyboard consistently types wrong letters. I.E. "C" types "o" and P types "Q". The substitutions are always the same and occur in all programs including notepad and when trying to enter a program name on the "run" command line. Here’s the sticky part. An external keyboard works perfectly on both users. Any ideas? Thanks Jerry |

Hi there. Welcome to ItsAllPC.
On the account with the weird keyboard: Go to Start > control Panel (Switch to classic view) > Regional and Language options. Click the Languages tab then click details. click "add" which is about half way down the window. Add the United Kingdom keyboard and remove all the others. click 'Apply' then restart your machine. This *should* solve your problem. Hope this helps Tom.

Strange Keyboard Problem
Thanks for your response.
I'm actually in the US, but I'll assume that the same logic applies. Doesn't the keyboard choice affect all connected keyboards? Does it affect all users simultaneusly? In any event, US English is the only option that is available in the "languages" keyboard section and (I'm assuming) that if the layout was corrupted then none of the keyboards for any users would work correctly. Any further thoughts? |

I'm not sure if it affects all keyboards, I would have thought so but it was worth trying anyway...
A quick fix would be to create a new account, and if it works properly transfer all the files/folders to it, then delete the old account. I'm not sure what else to suggest as it is such an unusual problem!
