What did you use to scan?
Is there any way you can post a picture?

Re: start/run does not appear start/turn off does not appear

hey there, firstly if you press your windows key(the key with the microsoft flag on) + R, it will open the run command, type msconfig, then press startup tab, what is on there? anything look suspicious?, let us know, also have you tried another logon? also do you have any restrictions set for your logon? Right click ur taskbar, click properties, click the start menu tab, click customize, click the customize tab, scroll down and make sure the run command box is ticked. I will look up how to recover your shutdown button, in the mean time press ctrl + alt + del, press the shutdown button at the top and press turn off

what do u mean default? do u mean so it auto logs onto that account on boot? let me know and i'll tell you how to set it . Also i think its best you know that ur run command is displaying that restrictions message most likely because of a virus, many virus's disable the run command so that u can't disable them running on boot by changing the msconfig, best that you get a good quality virus scanner thats up to date and do a system scan, up 2 u, i suppose now its working you'll be ok but eventually that virus will come back i would of thought urs Dave

Re: start/run does not appear start/turn off does not appear

This sounds like one of those prank joke programs.

Check in Control Pannel > Add / Remove programs to see if there is any file that admits to being a joke (As most do, when the joke is over)

possibility there, i've found that most pranks are closed by moving your mouse cursor into the top left or top right of your screen

Re: start/run does not appear start/turn off does not appear

If I've read the post correctly, this is what you should do.

While in the working administrator account, go to start, control panel.
Double-Click on User Accounts. Select the account that had that stuff disabled, then select the option "Change my account type," then change the setting to administrator. Now your original account will have full access to everything like it should.

Re: start/run does not appear start/turn off does not appear

i think he is set to admin, looks like spyware has edited his user rights so that he cant access run or shutdown, best way would be to backup your documents that can be found c:/documents and settings/your name and save the backup somewhere on ur c drive, don't save backup to ur desktop, also backup anything on ur desjtop u want and save it on ur c drive, go onto the account that works fine then goto c:/documents and settings/ name that dosent work, right click the name of the file of the account that dosent work and delete it, then logoff and log onto the account that didnt' have the shutdown or run command and see if the shutdown button and run command have appeared, if all works, stay logged on and goto where you backed up ur documents and desktop, cut them and then paste them back into the file they originally came from (c:/documents and settings/name that didn't work originally) hope this helps urs dave

Re: start/run does not appear start/turn off does not appear

ok m8, thought id make it easier, firstly logon to the new account you created that works, i've created 2 videos on how to fix your old logon, between video one and video 2 you will need to logoff the new account and logon to the account that didn't work originally, logging on will take a while but it should be ok , video links are below, when you click the link you will be taken to a site where the video will start almost straight away, best pressing the view size tab under the video and selecting 800 as this is the biggest size and easiest to see

Video 1: Here

Video 2: Here

Hope this helps, if u have any problems let me know

Re: start/run does not appear start/turn off does not appear

I tried it too and the actual video file no longer exists apparently. If you press play, wait a sec, then right click and go to error details it says it cannot find the specified file, or somethin'.
