/system32/hdl Corrupt

How do I fix this?

- I cannot start in safe mode and note it is hdl.

I'm assuming you are refering to system32/HDL.DLL . I'm not sure exactly what that DLL does, but I think it has something to do with the reading and writing of the hard drive's NTFS partition. You could attempt one or both of the following things. The most, perhaps, fool proof way of fixing this is to reinstall windows, that is, reformat the hard drive and reinstall. You might be able to repair the installation via the WinXP disc, but that can become complicated. The other thing you may want to attempt to do is run a chkdisk. But, you can't check for errors through windows, so you'd have to find an alternative on the web somewhere that comes with a boot disk.

Try this. It can often help system32 file system corruption by removing damaged files. They will then be restored from the cache next reboot.
