administrator access needed!!!

I am running windows xp and under "user accounts" I am listed as an administrator but when I try to install yahoo messenger 5.0 (old version) it says " You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please rerun this program from an adminstrators account." A similar thing happens when I try to install the latest version of yahoo messenger. It stops in mid install and says try again after restart. Can someone help me please? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

By the way the problem started after my wife deleted yahoo messenger to try and install it again because her pictures would not load up on her messenger account......

What version of Windows XP? Home or Professional?

Also - was the old version deleted or uninstalled?

hey there, this should be pretty easy to fix if u have ur xp disk handy, simply put ur xp disk in and goto start then run and type sfc /scannow this will replace any lost or damaged windows files and should give you access to msn install hope this helps

Re: administrator access needed!!!

For the love of god do NOT do this

SFC will seriously mess up things like COM registration and DLL multi-versioning.

Re: administrator access needed!!!

SFC is only a solution when even MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes) have become corrupted and need to be reinstalled, otherwise it can break many applications, or reintroduce old bugs and security flaws. Please don't suggest the use of SFC until you understand what it actually does...

You didn't read or understand the question properly, and so your suggestion is not only off the point anyway.

I see ur point, anyway i will keep a look out for re-setting administrator privileges, you could try making another administrator account and trying to install msn from that 1

Re: administrator access needed!!!

Just a quick question do you and your wife use the same desktop or do you both have to sign in on individual log in names? if you both have log in names try logging in on your wifes account(with her permission ;D) and then try downloading them you can always place shortcut on yours once downloaded

You're 16? Well...that's no excuse
