My computer (I use Windows ME) has recently started suddenly "hanging" and when I click Cnt-alt-delete I get the "msgsrv32 not responding" message. I've tried searching on the web for this but can only find references to the problem on Windows 95 when it refers to power settings which aren't in Windows ME. I've tried a registry cleaner and virus scan to but no improvement.

All constructive suggestions welcome!!

I'm not too sure on this however, if you have the money available for it, I recommend putting all your files onto discs and upgrading your PC to windows XP.

If you prefer not to spend money you can reinstall the Windows ME on your machine which will clear any software problems you are having.

This is another of the standard "Windows ME is dying" problems. Time for a reinstall.

I used to have this problem plus many others with windows me from what i was told win me has never been a stable operating system you cant go wrong investing in windows xp its so easy to use and ive never really had a problem with it.

hi there, u could do the windows updates, also try starting up i nsafe mode and doing a scan with ewido www.ewido.net/en, this will remove any spyware u have and may fix ur problem

Unfortunately the "msgsrv32 not responding" problem doesn't have a reliable solution

It seems to be due to a program using interprocess communication, but hanging when asked to be closed. If I had to stab at it, I'd say a library had been replaced, and an incompatible Class was causing the problem. There is no solution for this really...which is why Microsoft moved toward interface versioning. It rarely if ever has anything to do with spyware of viruses.

Once the Windows 9x/ME c:\windows\system directory content has been excessively modified, there's no solution but good ol' reinstallation.
