Re: locked out of BIOS

The BIOS has nothing to do with safemode boot prevention. Press F8 repeatedly during the boot sequence, for the boot menu. Failing that, the boot menu has probably been disabled.

Booting in safemode will not by-pass the Administrator account password however. If you're using Windows 2000 or XP Professional and the Administrator account is passworded, you'll still need it. If it's not passworded, just enter "Administrator" in the login name box (hit CTRL+ALT+DEL twice from the Windows XP Welcome screen). If you're using Windows XP Home, and there is no password on the Administrator account, then a safemode boot allow Administrator account access.

The BIOS password can be reset by clearing CMOS. This is typically done by placing a cap on the CLR_CMOS jumper (or something similarly named), and completely cutting power to the system for several seconds. Alternatively, removing the BIOS battery (and cutting power) will have the same effect.
