Windows Media Player/edition

I am hoping to buy a new PC - laptop maybe - or iMac G5.テつ! First of all, is it worth getting Windows Media Edition, seeing as though Microsoft have plans for introducing Vista, whatever that is, later this year? Is WME totally different/better than XP Pro or home? I've only tried it once on another PC and it made me jump through hoops to open a simple jpeg attachmentテつ! :

Second, does anyone out there have a mac and a PC? Right now you can access WMF on the BBC, C4 and Sky News video and radio clips. But Microsoft and Apple have only signed a deal for future mac versions of Office. Future updates of WMP will therefore be incompatible with the current WMP for mac.テつ! Instead mac users have to download Flip4mac from a private company Microsoft outsourced it to. This is supposed to work in Quicktime, but other forums suggest it's not working too well.

I have to use news vids for work and world music eg on BBC R3 for play.テつ! I'm not a big fan of WMP but understand the commercial logic of the decision but should this make me stay with PCs?テつ! I thought about waiting but the Apple 0% int. finance deal runs out end Jan.テつ! I do have an old PC laptop but it's creaking so can't rely on it for too much longer.

I wish Microsoft and Apple would use totally compatible formats and applications! But then I also wish I would win the lotteryテつ! ;D

AAAH this is in the wrong section, mea culpa! I was posting about screen res and got sidetracked. sorrryyyyyyyyyy.

Re: Windows Media Player/edition

I can tell you that Windows Media Center Edition is simply Windows XP Home with the Media Center application suit, which you launch from the start menu. It's only really worth while if you intend to use your PC as a home entertainment system.

The matter of Windows Vista / upgrading for an OS has been brushed on here.

It's not really worth asking people whether you should get a PC or a Mac; it's all a matter of preference. Just go for what you like the look of best and try to ignore everyone else.
