Windows XP turned Windows Whistler???

Let me start off by saying I have very precious pictures on my pc, which originally had Windows XP Home Ed. installed. We've recently moved and it's been about 2.5 months since I had my computer up and running. The first time I turned my computer on was on or about December 2nd ... it took a while to load to the login page, login page loaded, typed in my password then a prompt came up saying that I needed to register my version of windows with microsoft (yes/no) ... clicked no, got the login page again ... Clicked yes, got an endless blue screen. I was able to see my pictures through safe mode (which is also how I found out that Whistler had been installed), but i cannot save them to file ... how can I get my pictures off of my pc so I can reinstall XP ... OR ... how do I get rid of Windows Whistler???? I was told that a CD had to be physically inserted into the CD-ROM for Whislter to be on my pc ... is this true? Also, I know that it takes 60 days for that prompt to show up on anything less than a 64-bit processor (or something like that). PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Re: Windows XP turned Windows Whistler???

Hehe

Windows Whistler was the code name for Windows XP before it was officially named (just as Chicago was the codename for Windows 95, Memphis for Windows 98, Longhorn was the code for Windows Vista etc). I suspect you have a early beta of Windows XP; this would explain your performance issues.

All Betas will have expired by now, and wouldn't be usable unless you set your clock back about 6 or 7 years :P

Re: Windows XP turned Windows Whistler???

Yes, I understand that much.ÂÂ! I also understand that if I've had the computer for more than 2 years it would have prompted me to register with Microsoft after the first 60 days I had the computer.ÂÂ! How do I get rid of it? or get my precious pictures off my computer in safe mode?
