Deleted registry entries
I recently ran 'Hijack-this' and think i have deleted too many of the results. I now cannot access secure server sites, meaning no access to Gmail, my bank account, payment screens etc. I can also no longer do a system restore, even when in safe mode, I get an error message at the end of the procedure and tells me restore was unsuccessful.
I have ensured all my internet settings are correct so i dont think that is the problem. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Iain. |

Re: Deleted registry entries
The quickest and easiest way to solve this problem is to backup your data and then use the windows XP cd to reinstall windows. Trying to manually work out what is missing and fixing each entry is very hard and will take much longer than a full reinstall. Save yourself the headache and just backup and install windows xp again loz

Re: Deleted registry entries
Or, you can run the automatic Windows Repair facility.
Boot off your CD, and when asked if you want to repair; don’t (this is a confusing remnant from when Windows 2000 repair was available here. If you find yourself in the Recovery Console, you chose the wrong option). After Setup finds your Windows XP installation, you will be given options to delete, install [over the top] or repair. This is where you opt to repair, by hitting R I believe. A repair will restore all the Windows XP system files to their original versions and re-register all the libraries. If your Windows XP CD does not gave SP2 integrated, I recommend reinstalling it after performing the repair and obtaining the most recent security updates from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com If doing all that doesn’t help, you will have to reinstall Windows completely. |
