Smile Vista Question ????

I recently bought a computer with vista installed.I came with the basic vista Office packn eg Wordpad etc but no Word Excel etc.So after asking round and finding no reason not to i installed my Office XP suite. All works ok BUT i can only open documents after I've opened Word.EG You can't just double left click on a doc to open it.Same with email attachments you've got to save them to my Docs then open them with word.Obviously theres a default setting requires changing ???? Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks Fordy

Is there no option in the right-click context menu of the .doc to "open with..."?

Can you right click, select "open with", and select something like "choose from a list"?

It sounds like the file association isn't registered with the OS.
