Primary(logical) partition vs secondary partition

My laptop runs windows vista premium and i recently came face to face with "the blue screen of death" and then i was told to reinstall vista OS so i did but during that process the Partition drives got switched up. I have a hard drive for file backup and a hard drive for everything else. The backup hard drive is supposed to be the secondary partition drive (D: and the other one is supposed to be primary/logical (C: but they're not!! The backup drive only has 10GB and i can't run the whole computer on just that, i need to swap them around. If anyone knows about how i can do that it will be a big help
