laptop won't start up - Computer Forum

Hi. I am new to this, my problem is that I was downloading some stuff from a site, and now my Avent laptop on vista won,t start up it just stays on the black screen, the lights are on i.e the power light. I have tried removing the power lead and the battery, reconnecting both power lead and battery but still no joy. It won't pass the boot up detail, and then to the login screen it just stays blank. I am wondering if my laptop has been infected by a virus fro the site which has locked the screen at start up or could it be mechanical. can anyone help Please.

If nothing is being shown at all at any point on the screen (No white writing or splash screen or anything when the computer is turning on) then you do not have a virus and the problem is hardware related.

When the computer is booting hit and hold the F8 button and see if you can boot into safe mode.
If you can get in, try doing a system restore.

Thats 'Start>All Programs>Accessories>system Tools>System Restore'
