lcd screen has dulled

I was just on my Acer travelmate 2200 laptop when the lcd screen flickered and then went dull, I can just make out the windows desktop on the screen just.
has anyone any suggestions as to what may have caused it. :'(

When you say it "went dull" do you mean it became darker, and harder to see because of it? If that is the case, the backlight may have gone out. The backlight is what gives it its readability in poor lighting conditions such as extreme brightness or darkness. I wouldn't know how to fix it if that's the case, unfortunately. If it's under warranty, you should get a replacement.

Wait and see if anyone else can give you any other advice.

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE, I THINK THATS THE PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY IT PASSED ITS WARRANTY A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO.
SO HAVE TO TRY AND GET IT REPAIRED.
