Have just set up a second user account in XP on laptop. Problem now is that to access the orignal user account I need password but I've forgotten it as machien had been automatically logging on for 2 1/2 years. Is there a way to log on without password??

Re: password

You can re-create your account, and delete the old one. I'm not sure of a way to recover your password within Windows. Can you not make it auto-login again?

Re: password

If you're feeling brave, you can try Offline NT password editor. It works fine (most of the time), but it is an expert's tool.

Re: password

This will only work if you can access on account on your laptop

Well go on to your Control Panel then Click on User Accounts. Then it should come up with all the accounts that you have got on the Laptop. Click on your one' And i should come up with things that you can change. If you click on Remove Password it should remove it for you. I dont know if that is how it works on your computer but that is how it works on mine. Get back to me if this does or dont work.

Tom has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Re: password

That would only work if the new account he has made has administrator status.

Re: password

Reread what he has put.

His main account does have admin Status. This is the account which has been automatically loading when windows it loaded.

He has created a second account.. which may or may not have admin status...

He has now forgotten the password for his main account, as there are more than one account on his system, windows doesn't automatically load his main account.

Re: password

Hi There .....

Login Recovery is a service to reveal user names and recover passwords for Windows NT, 2000, XP, 2003 and Longhorn. As long as you have physical access to the computer, your passwords can be recovered

By following three simple steps, over 98.5% of passwords can be recovered within less than ten minutes. This service does not overwrite passwords, it does not write anything to the hard drive, it does not alter the computer in any way. It simply reads the encrypted passwords for processing through our servers.

A free low priority service is provided which can take upto two days to process passwords. If you wish immediate access to the passwords, a priority service is available for a fee of GBP 10.00 + VAT (approx USD 21.48 or EUR 17.66).(Fee introduced to cover costs of the dedicated server )

This company should be able to help and are FREE fo a slower service and quite cheap for a faster service there are other options available. Loz

Longhorn was the development / Codename and Vista is the retail name.

Vista (view) For windows brilliant Microsoft.. Must of taken them all of 3000 people and 1 billion USD to think of that!
