Laptop wont boot up?

Hey guys, hows it goin...

Any of you think of any reasons why my laptop isnt booting up? Yes, its plugged in and fully charged. I was using it the other day when the internet stopped working, so i rebooted, and it froze halfway through the disk check. restarted the thing and it has never come on again since, the power is on, but doesnt load anything, doesnt show the POST screen or anything...

Any hints before I take it to the repair shop?

Dead power supply within the laptop most likely, or the motherboard has shorted. Both of these result in similiar problems like you are explaining.

yikes, is that likely to be expensive to fix?

It depends on the type of laptop and how readily available the parts are. I've never had this happen on a laptop, but I don't think the power supply is all that expensive to fix. The motherboard however (if it's dead) might be a pretty penny.
