probs with hardware maybe drivers.

hi, im having trouble setting up my comp properly my main problem is the network card, ive installed the drivers given to me for this laptop, but im getting a code 10 error from the item. its says this device cannot start. can anyone help with this and get it workin please? it seems to b an intel pro/100 ve network connection. im running windows 2000 advanced server. on a sony pcg-grz615g .. its a fairly old model now, ive had this comp about 3 years. if theres anything else u need to no let me no n ill post it.

That particular problem can occur for several different reasons, including; The driver does not work for your hardware; Windows has mismanaged resources and cannot program the hardware correctly or; The hardware is defective.

Try reinstalling the driver manually with the Update Driver… option in the Device Manager. Try obtaining an updated driver from here.

If Windows has mismanaged your resources, it can be rather difficult to get things rolling again. Make sure PnP OS is set to disabled, if available in the BIOS. This is universally good practise, allowing the BIOS to allocate various resources before boot. If removing the device from the Device Manager, disabling it and rebooting, and anything else wont help it, it MAY help to remove the Microsoft ACPI Compliant System under System devices. This is the root of the whole physical device tree, and will force Windows to redetect and configure all hardware on the next reboot. This can be quite messy though, and leave many devices without drivers, which you need to then fix up.

Hopefully the hardware is not defective.
