Resolution problem!

Hi nice people,

I'm brand new to this so please be kind to me.

I use Windows XP and have just treated myself to a new HP 20inch wide screen monitor, HP W2007v.I set the resolution in control panel to the recommended 1680 x 1050. Click Apply and OK. Monitor works great, super sharp images etc. Reboot computer and resolution reverts to the resolution of my old monitor, 12?? x 7?? (I can't quite remember the numbers, am on night shift at he moment). Obviously this is not good as aspect ratio is now wrong and photos etc not sharp.

I reset resolution again and everything great till I reboot next time!!
Very frustrating. Have tried HP on-line engineer. He wasn't much good, just said it could be the monitor or computer at fault. Great!!

I assume graphic card (Radeon 9200 SE) is good as display is super when correct resolution is selected. Have tried for latest driver, but was told I had best driver already.

Could there be conflict with the driver for old monitor, as computer always defaults to best resolution of old monitor? If so , How do I correct this?

Now getting frustrated, so any help greatfully received.

Cheers,

Ivor.

Hope some-one can help,
