Between the Radeon X800 XT and the Radeon X1600 Pro, there is no contest; the Radeon X800 XT wins hands down

Re: Video Card vs. Video Card, WHo wins?
Are you asking if the graphics cards support MPEG2 hardware accelerated decoding? Under certain conditions, both the X800-series and 7800-series do; the old X800 has the upperhand with more efficient decoding. Neither support hardware accelerated encoding however.
ATI graphics cards are generally more elegant solutions than what NVIDIA brings to the game. NVIDIA tends toward rapid innovation, while ATI carefully matures architectures. As a consequence, you will see the X800 XT behave more predictably in games, rarely making mistakes, while the 7800 GS will be subject to highs where it out paces the X800, and lows where it underachieves and exhibits the odd rendering flaw. The 7800 GS does inherit DirectX 9c from its parent architecture, but on the other hand, lacks the brute force the X800 has. It's difficult for anyone unbiased to make a recommendation. |
