Unhappy Vista install problem on new PC

Hi all,

I just got a new PC , no OS installed.

I have done clean installs on PCs before but only ones that had already had a OS on previously.

My PC is :

Intel CORE 2 QUAD Q9300 10Ghz Power PC

With nVidia 8600GT 1024MB SLI

8GB DDR800 RAM

ASUS P5N-E SLI DUAL PCI-Express Motherboard.

THe PC came with the drivers for the motherboard etc.

I have tried installing these but the CD doesnt load, and i get black screen after bios screen saying sysmgr missing press crtl+alt+del to restart

I do so and it comes to this again.

I have tried inserting my vista CD. It loads up, and gets to around 48% expanding files, and then the dreaded blue screen comes up.

it says :

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000000A (oxFB07D354, ox000000FF, ox00000001, ox804E2E41)

That is as far as i have got.

Now on the bios screen also when i am booting it up. It says NEW CPU... Bios update required to unleash its full potential.

Can anyone help me with a guide of what to do .

the link for the full computer spec is here : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...TODAY.m238.lVI

Thanks for your help in advance.

That error is caused by one of two things: Hardware problem or driver problem. The OS corruption leads one to believe hardware failure. Maybe the RAM.

I'm sorry to say it, but that system is generally a bad build. For a start, this trader has engaged in unethical business practises by selling a 2.5 GHz system as a 10 GHz system. They have equipped it with far too much really cheap looking RAM. The graphics card is very low end, and is also equipped with a ridiculous amount of memory.

This kind of machine is designed to look really good in the eyes of a novice by having lots of RAM, but is actually pretty average in terms of performance and probably suffers from cheapness in important areas (notice there's practically nothing mentioned about the Power Supply, because it's cheap). Lying about how the processor actually performs is the icing on the cake.

If I were you, I'd try to get them to take it back and get some expert advice on a better build. But, if you really want to keep it, better checking all the hardware for defects, because I rather doubt the assembler did.
  • First, go into the BIOS and reset any CPU or Memory Controller settings, in case the assembler did something stupid there.
  • Use memtest86+ to check the RAM
  • Use Seatools to test the Hard Disk Drive.

Post back if you have any further questions.

You think you have issues now just wait till you get Vista installed

But I agree, it sounds like a driver issue.

You should probably think a bit more carefully about why you're bashing Vista, or at the very least, substantiate your complaints.

No problem. how would you like me to substantiate my complaints? I can give you links to benchmarks were XP runs off and leaves Vista. I can post videos of vista bugs and crashes. I can post screen shots of my personal Vista crashes. I can also give you the numbers that the local shops are reporting.

Of course, you don't have to prove yourself to me, but people who moan about any given change or don't really know what they're talking about are ten a penny. Not saying this is you, but if I fired up with an opinion about why the Airbus 380 was a pile of junk, thankfully, aerospace engineers wouldn't listen to me.

To break out from the group, you're going to have to present some good arguments, rather than just unsubstantiated statements. For example, benchmarks tend to be a poor argument because they're too subjective and not particularly indicative of performance in real-world scenarios: any expert will tell you that. For every Vista crash screenshot there will be at least 5 XP crash screenshots. I really wish that local shops could actually afford to retain highly skilled staff, but in this growth industry, they can't: in fact, you said it yourself.

But as I said, you don't have to prove yourself. From my perspective however, you're not standing out from the mob.
