Help with PC start up - Computer Forum

Hi Folks,

Im Looking for some help! On starting my PC, I can only get to the second page (one with device listings etc) and the process stops dead! Ive tried getting into safe mode - to no avail.

When the page loads up, 3 of the characters dissapear from the screen text rather quickly. The 'i' from device listings , and the 'e' from the serial bus controll'e'r> text. Is there any way I can get round this? Im running windows XP home edition. Any help gratefully received.

Has anything happened to the machine? E.g. have you dropped it, has there been a power cut / surge recently?
How old is the machine?
What video card does it have?
Have you ever opened the case?

Hi 100thmonkey,

Nothing at all has happened to the machine.I turned it off last night, and this morning - nothing (Apart from first two pages)!! No problems with this before now.

Machine is a P3 - a few years old.
I have never opened case.
Not sure what video card it has.

Any ideas?
