I wonder if anyone can help.
My PC keeps switching off suddenly. At first it was an Intermitent problem, but then it started doing it every time I switch it on. If I switch it on from cold, it will go through the start up process, but after about 10 mins it switches off as if a switch has been thrown, and there seems to be no supply to the tower, but peripherals linked through the usb ports are still powered (usb hub and Bluetooth dongle). I have replaced the 300 watt PSU with a new 450 watt unit, and this seemed to sort the problem out for a day, but the original problem has returned. Once the power is switched off, the only way to get the computer to restart is to take out the power lead from the PSU and replace it. If this is tried just after it has 'crashed', it will not get through the start up procedure before the same thing happens. I guess this means the problem has somthing to do with tempreture. Could the fan on the processer need replacing? could it be a problem with the switch that is pressed to turn the machine on? Any sugestions would be very welcome Spec pentium 2 ati graphics card 520mb ram 160 gb hard drive XP sp2 |

mite be something to do with the motherboard bios.
i experienced the same problem, but it was when i tried to install 4gigs of ram. it worked after i updated the bios. Though if you cant even get into windows, i don't know how you can get around the problem. hope you can fix it |

I also guess its might be a motherboard bios prob as maurice told, buy you try to change your power supply, improve your RAM, twice check the power and restart button wires as well ....

Thanks Micheal and Maurice, I replaced the processor fan on the heat sink, and (fingers crossed) it seems to have sorted the problem out.
I have controller which tells me the tempreture of the processor, and I am gussing that this was shutting the computer down to stop the chip from 'frying'. Thanks again for your replies. |
