blue screen error messages - help!!!

Hi

i have a dell desktop dimension 5000 pc. its a few years old. a few months ago i had problems with it and reinstalled windows.

since then i've been getting blue screen error messages every now and then. the first time i did it i actually paid a pro to come in and install windows as i didnt have a clue. thats when the blue screen error messages started.

anyway the messages are:

***STOP:0x0000007E(0xC0000005, 0x805A360E, 0xF7CB8944, 0Xf7CB8640)

and

***STOP:0x0000007E(0xC0000005, 0x805A360E, 10xF7A3C1E4, 0xF7A3BEE0)

i'm not sure if there have been any other different messages but thats what i wrote before. if anyone knows what this means would really appreciate your help.

Are you using Windows XP SP2? The code might indicating instability of your Windows. You are desperately needed to upgrade to SP2 if you didn't. This will cause as what you are having now, bluescreen continously and others problems.

hi there. yeah i am using windows xp sp2. still keep getting the error messages quite a lot. rather annoying

hi,Have you done some windows updates?These can fix many problems with pcs and hardware.On the bsod was there a file name at the bottem? most of the time there is.Could you please tell us the name..
If u got a pro to help you then i would reinstall windows xp.Pros aren't that good (depending on where they come from and who they are etc...)

Blue screens are usually very good indicators of two possible problems-Driver issues or hardware issues. The most common hardware issue I've dealt with is unstable, faulty RAM. Driver issues have gone anywhere from graphics cards to sound cards. If you take a look at Microsoft's Help and support site, the documentation suggests almost exactly what I've said, save a few things about the installation of windows.

The problem with BSOD's is that it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what is causing the problems. Sometimes it will give the name of a driver in the top left corner of the error. Other times it won't. A good place to start though is RAM. I recommend using the freeware program [url=http://www.memtest.org/]Memtest86+/url]. All you have to do is download the most recent pre-compiled bootable CD-Image and burn it to a spare CD-R. Put the memtest disc in the drive, and restart the computer. If all goes as planned, you should be greeted with a menu for testing memory. If I remember, the menu was pretty self explanatory. Let the memory tester run for several passes. Running it over night would be best. Then tell us the results. If you have any questions, be sure to post them.

thanks for advice. i'll try that. prob wont be for a week or 2 though as im away all weekend and go on holiday next week. i'll defo give it a go though.

also to guy who mentioned it above i have all the windows and microsft updates. it happening more often now. even when i ctually switch on manchine it goes straight to blue screen. have to switch off and then do last known good start option.

someone else in another forum has mentioned it could be RAM. i have a feeling it is as i think comp is f*cked basically. oh well, i'll try that download you said and run a test when i have time. cheers for that

If you're using XP check the Event Viewer in Administrative Tools in Control Panel. Was there a STOP error? It could be faulty hardware or heat related. Make sure all the fans are running. Leave the side of the case off and see if it still reboots.
