Problem with videos and games

Hey, I'm new to the forum - not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes:

When watching videos, i have to turn the hardware acceleration to none or my computer will freeze up. When playing games i have to turn the hardware acceleration to full on the slider, or it wont let me play the game.

Does anyone know how I could fix this?

Thanks in advance, Gaz!

Hi xenovia, welcome to itsallPC

Your issue is probably due to a problem graphics driver (or really old graphics card) not supporting hardware overlays properly. When you set the graphics acceleration slider all the way to the left, you disable all hardware acceleration, forcing Windows to render the video entirely in software (which can result in jerky playback). Of course, even games today that support some form of software rendering (very, very few) require at least 2D acceleration, which is why you have to turn acceleration back on.

There is really no reason why the card should freeze the system when trying to use overlays unless it is really old, broken or has bad drivers. I cannot provide any further assistance due to lack of information.

When asking for PC help, you should always give a basic specification of the system. It's also a good idea to include accompanying information, such as when the problem began, if you made any changes or repairs to the system immediately prior to first noticing the problem and anything else you have tried.

We have a section each user's the profile for hardware information that you should fill out to the best of your knowledge.
