Do you mean get rid of as in 'delete' ?

Or do you just want to end the process so you can clear some system resources?

Firstly, don't stop any WINDOWS/system32 processes.

Secondly, if you're not going online, you can stop the McAfee ones, and the AOL ones, but i wouldn't do that from task manager, i'd do it from McAfee. Just 'tell' it not to run at boot up.

Same as above with media player, Quicktime, Realplayer, MSN messenger, DAEMON tools, Grisoft and the two documents running, one of which is a temporary file (!?!?!).

Where possible go into the .exe shortcuts on your desktop or via 'start' and 'all programs' to stop these processes at boot up.

Also, considering all that, how long has it been since you defragged your hdd and cleared out your temp files?

You using vista or xp?

As i'm still getting to grips with vista myself, i can't help you much re the defrag.

If XP, are you getting an error message? when you say it 'wont let' you.

***Look, for a quick check to see if your problem does infact lie with the amount/type of processess that start at bootup i'd advise when you boot into windows:

-Don't open anything else manually.
-Click 'start'
-Click 'run'
-Type "msconfig"
-Click 'ok'

You'll now see a load of tabs appear: General, SYSTEM.INI, BOOT.INI etc

Stay on the 'General' tab

- Select 'Diagnostic startup'
-Click 'Apply'
-Click 'ok'

Then restart your pc and see if it makes any difference. If it doesnt then just start the above instructions again but when in the 'General' tab select 'Normal startup' and reboot and your system will be back to how it was before running the diagnostic startup.

The fact windows is giving you an error message when you go to defrag is worrying though. Are you sure its an error?
Is it not just saying something along the lines of "Drive C: does not need defragging" ?

Ask the obvious question. I'd assumed you'd reply with what the error stated when you replied.

Ive put a new response but for some reason (i'm an idiot?) ive added it in my second response to you (above) and not in this box.

Find the ***

So scroll up now and have a read.

he asked if there was an error message, you said yes. He presumed if there was, you would write what the error message says...

...

What does the error message say...?
