Newbie - help

Hi All.. this is probably going in the wrong forum area

I decided to upgrade my PC recently. I am a complete novice!

I brought used fromEbay from different vendors :

ASUS 8N SLi Deluxe M/B SKT 939
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (guaranteed working) alledgedly
ATI X300SE PCI-E GC (good working order) and
512MB PC3200 400Mhz DDR 8 x Matrix chips

with some help I have assembled it.. added a Y cable that was needed for M/B and a 20 - 24 pin adapter (from power supply)

Nothing at all at the screen

Have tried..
Graphics card in another machine - fine
PCI card on this board instead of PCI-E - no difference
More powerful PSU - no difference.
Keyboard in, no difference
Ram in/out - no diff.

There is a small red LED which has 'PC warn' next to it, near graphics card slot, this doesnt light up.
Processor fan turns, as does the MB fan
Lights on front light up.

Finally, machine beeps, 1 long 2 short .. i have heard this twice and then switched off every time.. The machine has probably been run for a minute at the most.. should be long enough?

Please help..
I have no machine that I can test the board / chip on.. all office PC's are not athlons...

John

What wattage power supply are your running? If you havn't got a STEADY 300w going through, and a stable 12v line, i'd 'suggest' that.

But i'm guessing you're using a generic psu??

Also, those blinkin' 20-24 pin adaptors should be made into a necklace and used to strangle the git who designed them.

As you can see i'm not a fan.

If you're still stuck, considering its nearly 3 weeks on from your original post, try to answer the questions above.
